Mother killed after knife attack in Böhl-Iggelheim

A 28-year-old man is suspected of attacking three family members with a knife in Böhl-Iggelheim during the night before 23 February. His 64-year-old mother sustained fatal stab and cut injuries; according to the preliminary autopsy result, blood loss caused by those injuries was the cause of death. His 36-year-old sister was slightly injured and his 35-year-old brother was seriously injured.

The sister called emergency services shortly after midnight. By the time police arrived, she and her brother had already fled the house. Officers reportedly found the suspect still using the knife against his mother as she lay on the floor in the entrance area. After he did not drop the knife when ordered to do so, police shot him. He was seriously injured and brought before a judge in hospital; pre-trial detention was ordered on suspicion of manslaughter.
