Man attacks police officer with knife in Bersenbrück

A 20-year-old man allegedly attacked an officer with a knife at the Bersenbrück police station during the night of 1 August. He had arrived at about 12:45 a.m. with a woman who initially intended to report an offence against her. After she decided not to file a complaint, he allegedly assaulted her. When an officer intervened, police said the man pulled a knife and repeatedly made stabbing motions toward the officer, continuing after the officer retreated into the building. The officer was not injured by the knife. The suspect was provisionally detained after pepper spray was used and was brought before a judge; an arrest warrant was suspended subject to conditions. The man and several officers experienced eye irritation from the pepper spray.
