19-year-old allegedly threatens police officers with knife in Berlin-Hellersdorf
Seven police officers were injured during an operation in Berlin-Hellersdorf on 26 December. Police had been called to an apartment building on Erich-Kästner-Straße following a report of a disturbance, where several aggressive people allegedly attacked the first officers to arrive. Three officers required hospital treatment for injuries that in some cases were serious, including fractures.
When further officers arrived, a 19-year-old allegedly approached them threateningly in the stairwell with a pointed object, believed to have been a knife. An officer shot him in the leg; he underwent surgery and police said his life was not believed to be in danger. Eight further suspects were arrested and taken into custody for identification. Investigations into the respective involvement in the attacks are ongoing.
