Man threatens ticket inspectors with pocket knife in Berlin

An altercation reportedly occurred at about 4:30 p.m. on 14 July during a ticket inspection on the platform at Museumsinsel underground station in Berlin-Mitte. Police said a 22-year-old woman could not show a valid ticket and was reportedly held by a 25-year-old ticket inspector by her handbag and forearm when she tried to leave the station. She reportedly struck his arm away.

After her 21-year-old fiancé arrived, he reportedly grabbed the inspector by the collar and then produced a folding pocket knife, threatening both inspectors with it. The woman and the inspector later complained of arm pain but declined medical treatment. A search did not locate the pocket knife.

The woman's 46-year-old father later arrived in a police uniform, identified himself as a police employee and left before responding officers arrived. Further inquiries established that he is in fact an employee of Berlin police. A specialist unit is investigating suspected robbery extortion, mutual bodily harm and impersonation of an official.
