Man critically injured in knife attack in Berlin

A 66-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries in an alleged knife attack in Berlin-Lichtenberg on 7 June. Police said a 40-year-old man had allegedly bought a kitchen knife at a supermarket on Frankfurter Allee beforehand. Outside the shop, he is alleged to have first attacked a 22-year-old man, who avoided the attack and was not injured. A few metres away, the man allegedly attacked the 66-year-old with the knife.

The injured man was taken to hospital for inpatient treatment and was reported to be in stable condition at the time. The suspect initially fled but was arrested at about 20:20 near the intersection of Frankfurter Allee and Buchberger Straße and taken into police custody. Police were investigating on suspicion of dangerous bodily harm and said he was to be brought before an investigating judge.
