Knife attack after dispute at Mehringplatz

On the evening of 17 April, two women became involved in a dispute at Mehringplatz in Berlin-Kreuzberg. A 23-year-old woman is alleged to have drawn a knife, made stabbing motions towards a 35-year-old woman and then deliberately stabbed her in the buttock. She is also alleged to have threatened a 68-year-old woman with the knife.

The injured 35-year-old later went to hospital with emergency responders. The suspect was arrested nearby but released after her identity was established and she was questioned; the knife was not found. During a disturbance at the scene, a 21-year-old man allegedly resisted police and struck an officer's hand. Two officers were injured during his arrest but were able to continue working. Police are investigating the woman on suspicion of dangerous bodily harm and making threats with weapons, and the man on suspicion of resisting law-enforcement officers.
