Man threatens residents with knife in Bayreuth

A 27-year-old man allegedly caused a disturbance in the stairwell of an apartment building on St.-Nikolaus-Straße in Bayreuth on Thursday morning and threatened other residents, in some cases while displaying a knife. After an emergency call, he retreated into his flat and barricaded himself inside.

Police secured the immediate danger area and called a special operations unit. After attempts to establish contact failed for several hours, officers forcibly opened the flat door shortly after 1 p.m. and subdued the man. He resisted being taken into custody but was no longer carrying a knife. Nobody was injured, and the man was taken to Bayreuth-Stadt police station for further measures.
