Man threatens another man and police officers with a knife in Aurich

A 47-year-old man approached police officers in a threatening manner with a drawn meat knife in Aurich on Tuesday evening. The officers used pepper spray, brought him to the ground and secured the knife. The man and three officers sustained minor injuries; the officers remained fit for duty. Earlier, at around 6 p.m., witnesses had reported that he was threatening another man with a knife near the central bus station. Police found him at a kiosk with the knife tucked into the back of his waistband; instead of complying with an officer's instruction, he drew it. He was taken into custody and later brought to a psychiatric hospital because he apparently was experiencing a mental health crisis. Criminal proceedings were initiated on suspicion of making threats and resisting law enforcement officers.
